14 PLACES TO STAY IN GLEN ROSE, TEXAS

WHERE TO STAY IN GLEN ROSE, TEXAS

There are a decent amount of places to stay in Glen Rose when it comes to chain hotels but when it comes to the more unique boutique hotels your options are fairly limited. However, cute places are popping up left and right which I’m so happy about! Maybe the next time you plan a trip to Glen Rose there’ll be new places available. In this article, you’ll find various resorts, boutique hotels, cabins, Airbnb, and a few chain hotels I recommend.

RESORTS AND BOUTIQUE HOTELS TO STAY AT IN GLEN ROSE

LA PALMILLA FARMS

This gorgeous resort is absolutely stunning — I mean my jaw dropped when I first saw it and I couldn’t quite believe it was in Glen Rose. Well, it’s about 15 from town in a little area called Nemo that I actually grew up in. My family coincidentally enough used to have cows graze on the land it’s on which is a hilariously small town! In addition to being a place to unwind and relax, it’s a wedding venue! I want to get married again just to have photos taken here in my gowns! When you first pull up to La Palmilla you truly feel as though you’ve escaped to some dreamy destination in Europe. The gardeners and groundskeepers keep this beautiful boutique hotel looking incredible. We were even able to meet one of the head gardeners Renea and she was absolutely lovely! There are various styles of rooms at La Palmilla to choose from for all different types of travelers. They have a one-bedroom king, one-bedroom double queen, two-bedroom casita with one king and two queens and a full kitchen + living room, a three-bedroom casita with two kings and two queens and a full kitchen + living room, and a three-bedroom casita with six queens and a full kitchen + living room. Regarding dining, there isn’t a restaurant on site but a continental breakfast is included during the week and a hot breakfast on the weekends. They do work with Mama Mia Mexican Restaurant to have food delivered which is a nice option for guests too.

ROUGH CREEK LODGE

Rough Creek Lodge is the GEM of Glen Rose. Rough Creek Lodge isn't just a place to stay it’s truly a place to stay a while and experience. Rough Creek Lodge sits on 11,000 acres of Texas-style paradise. It’s filled with adventures for families, friends, lovers, groups, and even great for business retreats. Whether you're renting a room in the lodge, a cabin, or a home, you'll have access to some of the most amazing activities, food, and amenities in the Western Hemisphere. I grew up going to Rough Creek Lodge for years since I was 5 years old. Our family would go to Rough Creek for holidays like Easter brunch and easter egg hunting, special occasions like celebrating my high school graduation and then my college graduation, or honestly just for a fun staycation or meal.

I feel like I truly have the inside scoop on Rough Creek because not only did I grow up going there with my friends and family, but I actually worked there as a babysitter at the Kids Ranch and then also lifeguarded at the family pool which has a full lazy river, waterslide, and hot tub! Y’all, this resort has it all.. from zip-lining, fishing, batting cages, s’mores, fossil hunting, axe throwing, hiking, to archery, and so much more. See all the activities available at Rough Creek Lodge here.

CABINS TO STAY AT IN GLEN ROSE

SKYBOX CABINS

You’ll absolutely want to stay in one of these epic treehouses in the Texas hill country. I still can’t believe these cabins are in my hometown… When someone mentioned them in my hometown as a potential place to stay after our wedding last October I looked them up and my mouth actually fell open. These cabins are INCREDIBLE! We had an amazing opportunity to stay in two of the four they offered last summer.

In addition to 4 cabins, they also have glamping tents! See them all here. I will say, they are definitely in the country and about 15 minutes out of town but so worth it if you’re looking to disconnect from reality. I will say if you’re looking for a place to work from home, this is probably not the place. We barely had any service and they don’t have wifi. Again, not a huge deal unless you want to work while in the beautiful Texas hill country. Read my full write up on two of the cabins here: La Tour & The Birdhouse.

HIDEAWAY RANCH & REFUGE

Hideaway Ranch & Refuge is truly an escape into the country. When you first arrive you’ll notice you’re on a real 150-acre ranch with animals roaming free such as buffalo, paint horses, Zebu, Nigerian goats, llamas, and Texas longhorns. There are ten cabins on the spacious property with various layouts to accommodate different family sizes. We felt very secluded from our neighbors in the Yellastone cabin which was lovely. Many of the cabins have full kitchens and grills on the deck so you can bring your groceries and enjoy time disconnected. One of my favorite things to do with my husband is bring groceries to cabins to cook and really just enjoy being out in nature but with a big comfy bed of course, which Hideaway Ranch definitely has. The best part, in my opinion, was the private hot tub on the deck which my mom and utilized numerous times. Hideaway Ranch’s mission is to nurture the natural ecosystem and to provide an eco-friendly ranch experience to its guests. They have adopted sustainable practices, utilize sustainable products, and strive to be an example of good environmental stewardship. In addition, the ranch encourages guests to embrace these ideals and take the opportunity to sit on a porch and enjoy nature coffee in hand or walk one of the various trails on the property. We can’t wait to come back and experience some of the other cabins as each and every one of them is unique in their own fun way.

THE FOOTHILLS SAFARI CAMP

Have you ever wanted to sleep in a tent surrounded by beautiful wildlife? The Foothills Safari Camp includes a ticket to a self-guided tour through the Gosdin Scenic Drive at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Why let the fun end at the scenic drive? Spend the night with wild animals in an awesome safari tent and then enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Glass Wall Pavilion (this is only available to guests staying the night). Read more about The Foothills Safari Camp as well as The Lodge in my full write-up here. The Lodge was built in the early 1980s as the home for original Fossil Rim owner Tom Mantzel. Through the years, it has been updated to provide bed-and-breakfast-style accommodations. Several common areas are available for guest use, including the newly renovated Lounge, Great Room, Balcony, and shared Kitchen.

OAKDALE PARK

When I was younger Oakdale Park was the place to be in Glen Rose during the spring and summer! It’s where the public pool was, right across from the Snow Shack, and overall just a place to hang out with friends. The Original Family Campground, Oakdale Park opened in 1925 as a campground, and motor court, built around the largest swimming pool in Texas at that time, the 330,000-gallon Oakdale Plunge. Oakdale is now one of the only private RV parks in the country listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

For almost 100 years, Oakdale has been home to many events, from family reunions, to RV rallies, swimming parties, and music concerts. Oakdale has everything a campground can offer with 120 RV spaces with full hook-ups, 20 spaces for tent camping with electricity, 20 cabins, two bunkhouses, two bathhouses, meeting room with kitchenettes, the Oakdale Casino, an updated 95-year-old dance hall turned event center, an outdoor kitchen and pavilion, the Dino Playground, a new children’s playground, a laundromat, an outdoor stage, picnic shelters, a park store, and free WIFI.

The pool is now only available to guests, members, or guests of members which not a lot of locals are a fan of but it is what it is. I think Oakdale has really been cleaned up over the years and is looking brand new now!

AIRBNBS TO STAY AT IN GLEN ROSE

WHERE I’VE STAYED

Compass Cottage

This Airbnb was such a lovely experience in a beautiful updated historical home right off the Historic Glen Rose Square, which is the heart of this small town. It was perfect for walking to and from The Square to drop off leftovers and even heavy shopping bags.

Glen Rose River House

This Airbnb we rented for my bridesmaids the night before the wedding and it was perfect — honestly, I wish I could have experienced it more. The place was beyond spacious and right on the river with an area to chill and even start a fire. We didn’t have time to do this unfortunately but they provided us with ingredients to make s’mores. This Airbnb is also dog friendly which is a must for us when we travel because we always bring Olive and now our second dog Pippin if we’re road-trippin’.

Modern Craftsman Style 4 Bed/4 Bath Home

We rented this Airbnb out for our rehearsal dinner as well as where the groomsmen could stay for the wedding weekend and it was awesome! This place is dog-friendly, super spacious, has great kitchen space, and is truly a spot for a large get-together. The overall aesthetic was great too — which not a ton of places in Glen Rose have.

CHAIN HOTELS TO STAY AT IN GLEN ROSE

There are numerous chain hotels in Glen Rose because of the many events that take place in town at the Expo Center, The Promise, and even the Power Plant. However, there are only a couple of them I would recommend and honestly, I recommend them if you can’t book any of the above-mentioned. For our wedding in Glen Rose, we did a ton of research on hotels in town that we could book for our guests.

LA QUINTA

I’ve been to this hotel for events in their private rooms you can rent for parties etc. as well as blocked-off rooms here for our wedding. Our guests said the place was great for a chain hotel and a decent price.

BEST WESTERN DINOSAUR VALLEY INN & SUITES

This hotel is right next to the Glen Rose Expo Center where numerous events are hosted like the rodeo, dog shows, and other various events, making it a great location. I think the last time I stayed here I was about 12 for a friend’s birthday staycation but it still has great reviews on Google.
