THE 7 BEST PLACES YOU NEED TO EAT AT ON CAPE COD
When people think about Cape Cod, I feel like they instantly think seafood and lobster — and they’re certainly not wrong but there is so much more to offer. In this blog post I’ll be sharing the 7 best places you absolutely need to eat at while on Cape Cod. This is just what we experienced on the Cape. There are numerous places we didn’t get a chance to check out but out of the ones we did, these were our ultimate favorites. I’ll be separating each place based on what town they’re located in on the Cape.
Cape Cod is comprised of 15 towns and each town has its own constellation of villages. This had me very confused when I first visited but once I learned about all the little villages in each town it made it a lot easier! The Cape is divided into three portions—the Upper, Mid, and Outer Cape. The Upper Cape towns are: Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth and Mashpee. Hehe yes… I said Mashpee. How cool would it be to say you’re from Mashpee?! Then there’s the Mid-Cape towns which consist of: Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis, Harwich and Brewster. Finally, we have the Outer Cape towns of: Orleans, Chatham, Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and my favorite, Provincetown or P-Town.
FALMOUTH
Cape Cod Winery
Cape Cod Winery is located in the neighborhood of East Falmouth. The winery is a definitely a place to sit back, relax, and enjoy the great weather and wine. We didn’t struggle to find a place to sit as there are numerous tables and chairs, covered areas, and we even sit in the vines for a bit too. They even had crushed seashels on the ground which truly made the place stand out from the wineries we visit in the south. At first I wasn’t too sure what a winery would be like on the Cape. I kind of thought it might be the same as the ones in Texas and then in my mind it’s like what’s the point. Why go to a winery on Cape Cod if it’s not going to feel like you’re at a winery on Cape Cod. Well… it absolutely blew me away in that fact that it does indeed feel like you’re at a winery on the Cape. From the crushed seashells to basically nautical themed everything and of course we can’t forget that their signature wine is called the Rosé Mermaid Water, Cape Cod Winery is THE winery to visit and experience while on Cape Cod. With over nine different varieties of wine to choose from there is surely something for everyone. Their wines will bring you that tranquil Cape Cod feeling.
Wolf Pizza
Oh my gosh I don’t even know what words to use to describe this pizza… INCREDIBLE. AMAZING. DROOL WORTHY. My friend Ana and I were excited about getting pizza while at Cape Cod Winery but we truly didn’t know what our taste buds were in for… This pizza was the best pizza I’ve had and y’all… I’m so picky when it comes to my pizza. I had the Post Malone which is: vodka sauce, heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella, & pesto and Ana had the The Honey Badger which is: ricotta, mozzarella, pistachio pesto, & fermented garlic honey. I don’t know if it’s the dough and or the flavor combinations or maybe just the love David Haddad puts into his pizzas, but they are well worth it. Ana and I joked that we never finish a meal completely and y’all… we cleaned up this 12 inch pizza. You can read more about David and his pizza here and be sure to follow Wolf Pizza on Instagram too.
YARMOUTH
Old King’s Coffeehouse
Old King’s Coffeehouse was our final stop on Cape Cod on our way to Boston to fly out of Massachusetts. It was right across the street from Bayside Resort, where we stayed for the last evening on the Cape. I love a good coffee shop that has freshly baked goods and treats, which Old King’s Coffeehouse absolutely did. Their cinnamon sugar doughnut holes were YUMMY! In addition to bakery items they have traditional breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, yogurt, and even overnight oats. I ordered my usual — vanilla latte with oat milk and it was great too! They have plenty of tables inside and out and their togo line goes by fairly quick.
DENNIS
Holly’s Deli
If you’re looking for a hole in the wall deli with great food and an absolutely delicious lobster roll, then look no further than Holly’s Deli. It’s certainly not a tourist stop and nothing fancy but their food is extremely tasty. I ordered a cold lobster roll and of course had to grab a bag of Cape Cod original chips to go along with it. We got our food to-go and then headed to the beach to enjoy it by the ocean — watch out for those seagulls though, they mean business!
The Waterfront Restaurant at Lighthouse Inn
I highly recommend stopping by for a meal at The Waterfront Restaurant at Lighthouse Inn. Ana and I actually ate their for dinner twice and thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service was great, and the view of the ocean was gorgeous! Lighthouse Inn is on a private beach, so you look out the window of The Waterfront Restaurant and BAM… ocean!
Now let’s get into the important stuff — the food!
The first evening we visited we had the sweetest server who actually recommended the fish sandwich, which is what Ana ended up ordering. It tasted fresh and was super crispy and delicious. The fries were the same too — which I think is a big deal. Most places have pretty mediocre fries in my opinion. I ordered the lobster tacos and oh mama, they were extra yum! Of course I had to get lobster something while on vacation on the Cape. We don’t have lobster like that in Texas... that’s for sure. The lobster tasted very fresh and the sauce they paired with it basically made me want to lick the plate clean. Not only was the food good, but the drinks were pretty dang tasty too.
I’m a sucker for Moscow mules so when I saw they had one with strawberry I needed to try it! Thank goodness I did because I’m going to be trying to recreate this drink from now on to have at home. It was the perfect amount of strawberry — not too much of a strawberry taste but still enough to make a difference. Ana ended up ordering something strawberry too, a frozen strawberry lemonade. I do recommend sticking to the drinks on their drink menu because I ended up ordering a margarita another night and it was okay. Ana and I joked that because we’re from Texas we are extra picky with margaritas so that could have been the case too. We had them remake it too and it was better but not great, in my opinion. I wished I would have just ordered that strawberry Moscow mule again because… oh my gosh yummy.
The following evening Ana and I tried dishes completely different from what we had before. Ana ordered the Cape Cod Quesadilla which she said was good (again, we’re from Texas so it’s hard to judge Tex-Mex or Mexican food) and I ordered the New England Clam Chowder which you can get in a bread bowl and a house salad. They were both pretty great, especially during a rainy day Cape Cod day!
CHATHAM
Mac’s Chatham Fish & Lobster
We stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant and I’m SO glad we did because it was some of the best seafood we had during our entire trip. Mac’s Chatham Fish & Lobster is a fresh fish market as well as a restaurant. They have daily specials and even amazing gluten free fried food. Additionally, they offer a great selection of beer and wine. I had a delicious berry sour beer there that I’m still dreaming about, haha! Ana had the fish and chips with a side of coleslaw and fries. The fish was oh my gosh, yum! Fresh and flakey and the fries were crispy and perfect. For me, I had 6 local Cape Littleneck clams and 6 local oysters that were served with cocktail sauces, a fancy onion sauce, and horseradish. I slurped those bad boys down so fast — they were beyond fresh. This is somewhere I’ll absolutely be visited every single time I visit the Cape.
PROVINCETOWN
Brunch at The Club
When you visit Provincetown you absolutely have to take a stroll down Commercial Street. It’s essentially the main street of P-Town. All the main shops, restaurants, and art galleries are off Commercial. You can walk a little off Commercial and find some cool places too. The Club is off Commercial Street and right on the water. We asked for a table outside and had a beautiful view of the ocean and a fabulous breeze. We ordered a pomegranate bellini and mimosa to start — they were great! I always order my mimosa with OJ on the side and they ended up bringing me a full glass of Prosecco with a cup of OJ, haha! Ana ordered the poached eggs served on top of sausage gravy and biscuits. Holy moly it was so yummy. The sausage gravy was quite literally perfect! I ordered the soft scramble with bacon that came with an english muffin and potatoes and something as simple as that was so yum! We kind of stumbled upon The Club because not a lot was open and we are beyond happy we did because overall it was 10/10!
The Lobster Pot & Lobster Pot Express
If you’re looking for a lobster roll in Provincetown, look no further than Lobster Pot & Lobster Pot Express which is just a block over. We heard numerous raving reviews about Lobster Pot’s lobster rolls so even after eating at The Club we made room in our bellies for one. We headed over the Lobster Pot first only to find out they had a separate shop for togo orders if you want to grab a roll and sit on the beach like we did. We walked about a block over and found Lobster Pot Express. We ordered a basic hot lobster roll which came with butter and a bag of Cape Cod potato chips. The lobster is market price so sometimes it’s more expensive — for us it was $26. After smothering it in delicious butter I took a bite and OH MY GOODNESS. The people were right, the lobster rolls at Lobster Pot are heavenly. The lobster is clearly fresh based on the taste and the toasted buttery bun adds a little crunch that makes it perfect. In addition to the basic lobster roll, they have a lobster grilled cheese, lobstercado roll, lobster salad roll, and even a lobster rueben.
Of course, there are other great places on the Cape but these are some of my absolute favorites. What are some of your favorite places to eat on the Cape?
