WHY YOU NEED TO VISIT MYSTIC HOT SPRINGS IN MONROE, UTAH ON YOUR NEXT TRIP

Mystic Hot Springs is about 2 and a half hours from Salt Lake City but definitely a must visit while driving around the state of Utah. It’s quirky and fun and most importantly beautiful and relaxing! We actually had the entire hot springs to ourselves for an hour or so. Mystic Hot Springs is in the small town of Monroe and when you pull up on it you have one of those “Am I at the right place” moments. Don’t worry, you are! We purchased our tickets online and then called when we arrived and they directed us where to park and then we walked right on in with no contact. They do have bathrooms but they’re close to the parking lot which is a walk and a half away from the pools so if you have to go do it before you head to the springs or after you’re done soaking. The bathrooms are very summer camp chic but they are clean which is great!

I wanted to answer various questions you might have about Mystic below and share some gorgeous shots we took while enjoying the springs!

WHY YOU MUST VISIT MYSTIC HOT SPRINGS

Where exactly is Mystic Hot Springs located?

As I mentioned before, Mystic Hot Springs is about 2 hours and 37 minutes from Salt Lake City! We actually drove from Salt Lake City to Zion National Park and stayed the night then headed to Bryce Canyon National Park that next morning then to our reservation at Mystic Hot Springs. There are numerous amazing places to hit while driving around Utah. We even had to forfeit seeing a couple different places because we just didn’t have enough time. Sooooooo I guess I’ll just have to go back and experience the places I didn’t get to before!

How much is Mystic Hot Springs?

Tickets are $25 per adult and $12.50 for children 12 and under. I thought this was extremely affordable for the fabulous time we had. Soaking passes can be purchased online and during covid they are requiring it. Soaking passes are good for a reserved 2 hour time slot! While we were there between 3-5 we only had two other people show up after we had the place to ourselves for a good amount of time! Be sure to purchase your tickets and check the calendar here.

What’s the history behind Mystic Hot Springs?

Mike Ginsburg was traveling in his bus back to Denver from the last Vegas Dead shows in 1995 when he stumbled into Mystic Hot Springs. He instantly realized that everything he was looking for was right there. Miraculously, he was able to purchase the resort.

He’s been working there since 1996! He has used his artistic talent to add new soaking areas, restore pioneer cabins, promote many wonderful concerts, produce DVDs, create stunning lampwork glass jewelry, and bring a special energy to this wonderful place. Read more about the history of Mystic Hot Springs here.

How many soaking pools are there in Mystic Hot Springs?

The soaking area consists of two concrete pools and six vintage cast iron bathtubs. The two concrete pools are the ones pictured above and are the first pools you’ll see when you walk in. The shallow pool is 2 feet deep and features a waterfall created by the minerals spilling into the side of the pool that gives a most heavenly massage. The deeper pool is four feet deep and creates a perfect place for strengthening and stretching muscles or floating meditation.

Once you walk up the steps from the concrete pools you’ll see the vintage tubs scattered around. I prefer the ones pictured below that are built into the rocks versus the ones lined up next to one another but all of them are great! Read more about the pools here.

Can you stay at Mystic Hot Springs overnight?

Mystic Hot Springs is so much more than just hot springs! They have campsites in grassy areas under big trees, unique hippie buses, authentic pioneer cabins, full RV hookups, and more! When we were parking our car we saw the hippie busses and they were so cute! See all their accommodation options here. Evidently, they put on some cool concerts too where you can sit in a tub and soak while jamming out! Who would have thought?!

How hot do the soaking pools get?

The temperatures of the soaking pools are between 99-110 degrees Fahrenheit! They felt fantastic, especially on my shoulder which is always in need of a massage or soak in a hot tub.

Are the soaking pools cleaned?

The tubs are drained and cleaned a few times daily and the pools are drained and cleaned bi-weekly. With the consistent flow, the water stays clean and hygienic. You can even walk up the hill to the top and see the water flowing down. Be careful though the water is hot! The water’s cloudy appearance is naturally occurring due to the minerals in the water. There is no sulfur in the water, so washing off after soaking isn’t necessary! I had never been to a hot springs that didn’t have sulfur in the water so it was cool not to soak while smelling the rotten egg smell. If you’ve been to a hot springs you know what I’m talking about.

Have you been to a natural hot springs before? Even better; have you been to Mystic Hot Springs before?

xoxo
