THE ULTIMATE 24-HOUR ITINERARY TO GEORGETOWN, TEXAS
THE ULTIMATE ONE DAY GUIDE TO GEORGETOWN, TEXAS
Georgetown is a little gem right outside of Austin, Texas. If you’re looking for a nice, relaxing getaway, then look no further. Georgetown has amazing food, experiences, shopping, and much, much more! In this 24 hour itinerary, I’m sharing some of my personal favorite things to do, places to stay, and restaurants you’ve gotta experience.
WHAT IS THERE TO DO IN GEORGETOWN, TX?
DAY ONE
Start your visit at the Georgetown Visitors Center
The visitors center is a must! They have a plethora of information about Georgetown and the surrounding area, plus the nicest individuals are waiting to welcome you to their beautiful town. When we arrived, we were greeted by Pamela, and she told us all about the significance of poppies and why Georgetown is the poppy capital! The red poppy flower has become an integral part of Georgetown history. A young soldier sent home seeds from Flanders’ Fields during WWI, and the Red Poppies began to grow wild across Georgetown for many years. Read more about these flowers on Georgetown’s website here.
Additionally, if you’re interested in murals or backdrops, they have an amazing Georgetown wall right when you walk in that’s the perfect photo opportunity!
Venture below ground at the Inner Space Cavern
Nestled off Interstate 35, the Inner Space Cavern is truly a hidden gem. Did you know that when you’re driving on i35 from Georgetown to Austin, you’re actually driving on top of caves? While we were down in the caves, we could actually hear the cars above us! It was a little eerie but super cool too. What’s nice about these caverns is that they offer 3 different tour options based on how you want to explore the caves. We did the adventure tour, which is a lit walking tour, but they offer 2 other tours that are more adventurous and aren’t lit. I 100% will be coming back to do those tours because I’m an adrenaline junkie and would love to see more of these beautiful works of art underground and in a spookier setting.
The Inner Space Cavern is the perfect place to bring the entire family, and is surprisingly affordable. The adventure tour is a little more than an hour and is seriously worth every penny. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, answered all our questions, and was overall very entertaining! She told cute stories about the caves and really kept us captivated. I highly recommend stopping by the cavern while visiting Georgetown and be sure to hit up the Inner Space Cavern gift shop.
Grab lunch at Blue Corn Harvest
Blue Corn Harvest is a wonderful place for delicious Southwestern cuisine! Mom and I chose to eat there because of their fresh ingredients and because they support local farms (and oh my goodness, can you taste it). We started out with the fresh guacamole and chips, which were garnished with house-roasted salsa! The mango in the salsa was honestly my favorite part and added a sweet flavor. For our entrees, we had the veggie enchiladas and a bowl of tortilla soup, my favorite! We sat on the back patio, and it was very spacious and felt super secluded, which is great for groups!
Go shopping in downtown Georgetown
If you like shopping, you’re going to LOVE the shopping in downtown Georgetown! There are numerous shops, galleries, and vineyard tasting rooms. My personal favorites were the antique shops, with Rough and Ready Antiques being my ultimate favorite. Take a stroll down the streets of Historic Old Town and really embrace that small-town feel; you won’t regret it. Stop by Grape Creek on the Square Tasting Room and grab a glass of wine and hang out, or take it to go because you can actually walk around Georgetown Square with an alcoholic beverage. Shopping with a glass of wine? Yes, please!
Check into your hotel and rest a bit
The Sheraton Austin Georgetown was in the perfect location! About a five-minute drive from downtown and just steps from cute shops and delicious restaurants. The Sheraton wasn’t just a hotel to stay in while visiting Georgetown; it was an experience in itself. Right as you walk in, you’re greeted by a chic and elegant feel with windows everywhere showing off a Hill Country view. Mom and I loved hanging out in our room and, of course, down by the pool. They even had a gorgeous lounge upstairs called Jack’s that would be perfect for an after-work happy hour or date night.
The rooms at the Sheraton Austin Georgetown were very chic and cozy! We loved being able to come back to the room and relax for a bit between activities in Georgetown. The beds were very comfy, as was the cozy little corner where I frequently sipped my coffee and worked on my laptop.
Overall, we had a wonderful time at the Sheraton Austin Georgetown and will most definitely be back to stay.
Have some pre-dinner drinks, appetizers, and s’mores at Brix & Ale
As we stepped off the elevator and walked into Brix & Ale, we were impressed by the chill and relaxing atmosphere almost immediately. They had indoor and outdoor seating, and of course, we chose outdoor so we could be by their fire pits. They had a ton of seating surrounding two fire pits and then additional tables and chairs around that area as well. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and the chef even came over and greeted us. If I’m being honest, we could have stayed out by the fire for hours if we hadn’t had another reservation, especially because they brought us s’mores kits to make s’mores by the fire! How cool is that? They even sent us home with a couple of kits to make s’mores at home!
Walk to dinner at 2020 Market
Oh my goodness, just thinking about 2020 Market makes me drool! The menu comes from local farmers’ markets, Gulf Coast fishing boats, and country farm fields. They were all just steps away from the Sheraton and well worth the wait. We waited outside for our table and listened to live music (you could even grab a drink if you wanted to as well). The food was impeccable. I had the Shiner Bock salmon on a bed of rice with grilled broccoli, and mom had the shrimp ravioli. The food was fresh and delicious, and our server was wonderful, like putting a napkin under your drink every time it sweats, wonderful! What makes 2020 Market even better is that it was very reasonably priced. Our entire meal was $36 minus drinks. Additionally, it’s a place you can take the entire family or go on a nice date with your significant other and have a great time.
DAY TWO
Have breakfast at Sweet Lemon Kitchen
Sweet Lemon Kitchen has an awesome story and is female-owned! Rachel Cummins was a stay-at-home mom and then decided she wanted to go to culinary school in Austin. She has a commitment to providing organic, healthy food to the Georgetown area and supporting local farmers! Now let’s talk about what we ordered and how it tasted. I ordered the avocado toast and coffee cake, and my mom ordered the ham & Swiss croissant and a cinnamon roll! Oh my goodness, the flavor, y’all! I wish I could eat this breakfast every single day. It was THAT good.
Head over to the iconic Sweet Eats Fruit Farm
Sweet Eats Fruit Farm was a last-minute decision on my way back home to Houston, and I’m so happy I made it. It was an amazing experience, even when just by myself. I had been seeing beautiful photos of people at a gorgeous pumpkin farm recently and didn’t know where they were being taken. When I found out they were at a farm right outside Georgetown, I was so happy I was nearby!
I arrived RIGHT when they opened at 9:00 a.m., and there were already 5-10 cars there waiting for them to open. Honestly, I was shook that there were people there already on a Friday morning. Nonetheless, I grabbed my camera bag with my tripod and headed in. If you’re just buying pumpkins and taking photos, you don’t have to pay to enter, but you do have to fill out a release form. Always be sure to ask if photos are okay when you’re anywhere, to be honest. They said yes and directed me to the pumpkin patch. It was only a 2-minute walk down a dirt path, not bad at all. I scoped out the area, then set up my tripod and started taking photos! How cool is this pumpkin house?! I loved the back of this old pickup truck, too! Once I took all my photos, I walked around and found the perfect pumpkin! I grabbed a little baby pumpkin too and then trekked back to the entrance to pay. It was only $10 for a BIG pumpkin + a baby one. The pumpkins are $0.79/ lb and they accept cards!
Sweet Eats Fruit Farm is more than just a farm and has multiple events year-round! They even have a sunflower festival during the summer; I’ll definitely be attending.
Adventure at the Blue Hole
Blue Hole is located five blocks north of the downtown square along N. Austin Avenue. Limestone bluffs border this scenic lagoon and popular swimming hole along the South Fork of the San Gabriel River. The entrance to Blue Hole Park is at W. Second Street and Rock Street. Read more about Blue Hole on Georgetown’s website here.
