THE BEST PLACE TO STAY WHILE VISITING MISSOULA, MONTANA

I’ve always loved Montana but I never had the chance to visit Missoula until just recently and what can I say except we loved it! We wished we had more time to explore the area but I guess that means we just have an excuse to come back… Oh well!

Where to stay in Missoula, Montana

While in Missoula, we stayed at The Wren and it was absolutely lovely. This centrally located hotel is within walking distance from food, entertainment, and more all downtown. The hotel was originally built in the 1960s and has since been revitalized to feature a clean Scandinavian vibe with local art and flair of the city.

What are the rooms like at The Wren?

The guestrooms were designed with exploration in mind and to make The Wren your basecamp while out embracing and discovering the city. Every detail of the rooms reflects the quirky vibes of Missoula. The rooms are modern and trendy while still being oh-so comfortable. While in the rooms you’ll enjoy nods to Montana roots with sliding barn doors and local art. These comfortable spaces allow for evenings of relaxation after a big day of exploring the area. From comfy pillow-top beds, fuzzy robes, a desk to organize your list of things to see in the city, to a big-screen TV, and with various room types, it’s not hard to find the right setting just for you. In each room, you’ll find various wall murals from local Montana artists! At The Wren, you’ll truly find artwork from locals around every corner and their stories are fascinating too. Read more about these incredible artists here.

What are the bathrooms like at The Wren?

The bathrooms, of course, were one of my favorite parts. They were very spacious with a huge walk-in shower accompanied by incredible bath and body products. They were all different unique scents and honestly, I can’t stop thinking about them. So whenever you stay, be sure to hop in the shower and take advantage of these luxuries.

What amenities are available to guests?

Free coffee and tea in the lobby

Coffee and tea are included every morning downstairs. They even had oat milk as an option to put in your coffee or tea, which this dairy-free girlie very much enjoyed. We grabbed some coffee and then headed over to a comfy little spot in one of their community areas to relax and enjoy the morning.

Grab a latte at the connected coffee shop

Would you believe that there is a coffee shop connected to the hotel?! So if you’re hankering for a little more than a brewed coffee you can grab a latte or many other specialty coffee options. We popped into the coffee shop for an iced chai and vanilla lavender latte which were both delicious. What’s lovely about this coffee shop is that they have garage doors they opened because the weather was so lovely. The cool breeze was fabulous and the sunlight shining in just made it *chefs kiss*.

Go shopping at REVOLVR

Founded in 2013 in Bozeman, Montana, REVOLVR Menswear is a boutique men’s clothing retailer focused on superior service and exceptional value. We’ve actually been to the original in Bozeman and loved it too. My brother and husband ended up walking out with a decent amount of goodies so it was really cool to see this familiar store in Missoula too — let alone attached to our hotel. They have a fair amount of unisex pieces too so I highly recommend exploring the store with your coffee in hand.

Enjoy the community spaces

What makes The Wren really special and unique are all the little spots guests can enjoy for working remotely, relaxing, playing a game, or just chatting with friends. We sat on this beautiful leather couch for a while sipping on our coffee and flipping through a neat coffee table book about tree house villas.

What’s available to do nearby?

We loved being so close to restaurants, coffee shops, venues, etc. that we could walk to them.

Grab dinner at Plonk

We were recommended Plonk and it lived up to its’ hype. It’s about a 3-5 minute walk from The Wren which was very convenient. Plonk strives to present a comfortable atmosphere in which people can enjoy the magical union of food, wine, and music. Which for us, is our holy trinity! We love a place where we can feel comfortable and relax with delicious wine (or cocktails), and listen to music. We ended up there during happy hour which were some great discounts on drinks, appetizers, and charcuterie boards which is pretty much what we ended up with. The happy hour menu is available from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily and 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm Thursday through Saturday.

We started with the Chandon Garden Spritz which is dry cuvée made with chardonnay, pinot noir, and Semillon finished with bitter orange aperitif, and the El Sur Siete Cinco which is espolón blanco, fresh lime, and agave, with pacifico beer. Oh my gosh, y’all the Chandon Garden Spritz was probably one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. Hands down. It was giving Aperol Spritz but honestly better! For our mains (not actual mains), we went with the buffalo cauliflower appetizer which is served with celery hearts, garlic chips, radish, and a blue cheese aioli, and the Ploughman’s Charcuterie Board. If you like cauliflower at all… get this! It was SO FREAKING GOOD!! Overall, we will be back to Plonk in Missoula or their Bozeman location!

Check out Brennan's Wave

You might have heard of the famous wave in downtown Missoula and if not, you need to check it out! Brennan's Wave was constructed in memory of a world-class kayaker from Missoula who died while paddling in Chile in 2001. Brennan's Wave brings great surfing into the city if you can believe it! We definitely thought people were joking when they mentioned a wave downtown that people were surfing on! On any given summer evening you can stop to watch kayakers, surfers, and paddle boarders playing on the wave.

Overall, we had a wonderful time at The Wren! I loved how open the space was to walk around or sit and enjoy the outdoors — especially in the summer months. I highly recommend getting up early to watch the sun come up. It was absolutely beautiful!

If you ever find yourself in Bozeman, Boise, Idaho, or Walla Walla, Washington, check out their sister properties, The LARK, The SPARROW, and The FINCH.

XOXO
