STAY IN THESE LUXURIOUS VILLAS RIGHT OFF HISTORIC FRONT STREET IN COUPEVILLE, WA
What it’s like to stay at Salty Vons Waterfront Inn in Coupeville, WA
Salty Vons Waterfront Inn overlooks the beautiful shores of Penn Cove on the Salish Sea, nestled on Whidbey Island. Just outside the inn is Front Street, the heart of Coupeville, making this inn's location exceptional for visitors to this charming town. Some of the best features of the inn are the unobstructed views of the wharf, Penn Cove, and Mt. Baker. We were lucky enough to have a sunny weekend where the mountain was shining over the water and truly magical. You might even see some wildlife swim or fly by, such as otters, seals, herons, eagles, and maybe even some whales. Coupeville is the second oldest town in the State of Washington and is situated in the heart of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve. It is home to the historic Coupeville Wharf, unique shops, restaurants, museums, you name it.
We had the lovely opportunity to stay in two of the suites at Salty Vons Waterfront Inn — The Lower Waterfront Suite and the Studio Suite.
Lower Waterfront Suite
The Lower Waterfront Suite features two queen bedrooms, one spacious bathroom, a full living room, and a large chef’s kitchen. This unit also includes an expansive outdoor deck that is perfect for relaxing while enjoying uninterrupted views of Penn Cove. Our favorite part of this unit was the windows facing the cove, especially in one of the bedrooms, because it felt as though we were actually in the ocean — not to mention waking up to a beautiful view or a foggy morning.
The bathroom in this suite was great with the basics you might need. I’m always a fan of places that offer the black makeup towels too just in case something decides to smudge when you’re washing your face and taking your makeup off.
As I mentioned before, the windows in this unit were incredible and truly made the unit what it is. The couch and chairs were very comfortable. I read a lot during this little staycation, spending a couple of hours on the couch immersed in ACOTAR, just melting right in. These units felt very much like an Airbnb but with hotel service, allowing guests to relax without lifting a finger. I really appreciate this because I love the charm of an Airbnb but dislike all the stipulations and extra fees.
The way my mouth fell open when I saw this kitchen… it was truly magnificent, especially for an inn! If you want to stay for a while and get some groceries, this would be the perfect place to cook meals to enjoy right on the water. The kitchen was fully stocked, and there was plenty of coffee — a big deal for me! I could totally see staying in the unit with couple friends and cooking steaks, veggies, and more. Don’t get me wrong, I love going out to eat, but there’s just something about staying in while on vacation and cooking.
This Lower Waterfront Suite features a large private deck and table over the water, ideal for hosting, playing cards, enjoying some wine, or dining outside. We spent some time looking for birds and wildlife, and it was incredibly peaceful.
Studio Suite
We loved being able to stay in two very different suites at Salty Vons and can’t wait to experience the ones we missed next time. The Studio Suite faces Front Street, making it an ideal choice for those who want to explore the town. We could simply open our front door, walk down the stairs, and be on the main street, where we found numerous restaurants, shops, cafes, a historic museum, and the visitor center.
The kitchen in this unit was quite different from the others, yet equally beautiful with pops of copper. It was smaller, but still quite spacious for a studio suite. Although we didn’t use the kitchen much aside from making coffee and tea, we appreciated having the option to cook if we wanted to.
The owners of this inn do a wonderful job selecting comfy couches; even in the studio suite, the couch was fantastic. My husband and I spent hours reading on it, just relaxing, and we loved it. For a studio, this unit was quite spacious. However, it didn’t have a large dining table, but it did feature bar stools and a big counter for eating.
The bedroom in the studio suite was lovely and the bed for COMFY. I didn’t want to get out of bed it was so comfortable. In addition to the bed, the bedroom had plugs on either side which is a biggie for me. I hate when I can’t find a plug right by the bed to charge my phone and watch. Regarding the bathroom it was lovely and again had the basics including that makeup towel. In addition, I really like the design of this bedroom as well as the other bedroom. It felt very boutique hotel which is my favorite while traveling.
