SPACEJOY DESIGNED MY HOME OFFICE

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Spacejoy, an online interior design platform to redesign a room in my house. I decided to pick a space I would be spending the most time in, my home office. Since we moved to Houston and I started working for myself, I wanted my home office to be “perfect”. I wanted it to be functional for what I do, cozy, stylish, and most of all ME. To be honest, I kind of just threw everything I had into my little space in our apartment and called it a day. I didn’t actually take the time to put everything up on the walls, organize, or even make sure the furniture I had was in the right place to make the office seem bigger. Basically, my space was super disorganized and felt extremely crowded. Don’t worry, you’ll see the disaster office below! Spacejoy has been a literal dream to work with. In the beginning, you take an online quiz to determine what you want to have designed. They give you a selection of areas in your house to choose from and then you answer a series of questions to decide what will be best for you. Once you’ve completed the quiz, you’re contacted by your very own interior designer! They’ll request photos of the space you’re wanting to update as well as dimensions to create a 3D render of your space. My designer, Heather, was amazing, she asked me numerous questions like what I wanted to keep in my space, what I was looking for in the room, i.e.organization, and more!

Before

My office was all sorts of chaotic and I was okay just living with it. I wanted more for the space but didn’t really know what to do to maximize the space. That’s where help from Heather really made the difference. She was able to see my space and visualize what would work best. I mean, can you even believe I worked in such a disorganized mess?

Spacejoy’s Designs

Spacejoy was able to take the pieces I already had in my office and pull them into a 3D rendering as well as adding other gorgeous pieces to make the room flow together in a style I choose in the beginning, during the quiz.  Y’all, let’s just say my jaw literally fell open when I saw the 3D renderings of my space because I had no idea what it could truly be. Not going to lie, my eyes watered a little too because my office is the place where my business is shaped every single day. I wanted a space where I could feel comfortable, able to do my work efficiently and have a space where I could entertain a little too. Spacejoy knocked my home office design out of the freaking park! Heather gave me two different concepts for the office and a short little explanation of why they placed pieces where they did, in her own words.

Concept 1

“For our first option, I wanted us to play a bit with the colors in the room. We'll paint the back wall in Benjamin Moore's Hale Navy and match that color on the wall with your clothing rack. Using these deep colors will help trick the eye into the room being larger than it is. We'll put your large tapestry on the wall where you first walk in- creating a natural focal point. A cozy rug will ground the space. To add in storage and a place to set frames for a gallery- we'll add in shelves and hooks above the sofa. I like this for storage of purses, bags and other items. We'll have another shelf above the clothing racks with baskets for additional storage. A floor lamp and charging end-table add brightness and some functionality to the room.”

Concept 2

“In the second concept, we use the back wall as additional storage with shelving and hooks. The tapestry moves behind the sofa. For the desk, we have a mountable light fixture, calendar and clipboards to help keep you organized. A neutral rug grounds the space and beautiful blue pillows pull the tapestry together.”

Keep in mind, that if you’re not completely in love with the design offered, you can edit the design with your designer. They ultimately want to help create a space that you’ll LOVE.

Shopping List

Once you’ve received the 3D rendering you’re happy with, it’s time to shop! OR get some ideas of what will work in your space you’re sprucing up. In the very beginning of this process, I mentioned a quiz you take to help determine your style and what stores you like to shop at. Well, this is where that all comes into play. Heather listed all the items she chose for the 3D rendering below for me to shop! Many of the pieces listed helped get an idea of what to purchase when I made a trip to IKEA and Target!

Let me introduce you to my beautiful new home office!

For the finished product, I decided to take a bit from each concept provided to me and create something that was completely ME! I decided to put my full body mirror against my tapestry wall and then hang all my hats above it to get them out of the way as well as display them. Additionally, I decided to create a huge gallery wall above my couch with a floating shelf to hold some of my baskets. I loved the idea they provided in concept 1 but ya girl has A LOT of art and pieces to hang. Overall, Spacejoy has helped me create the home office of my dreams and I couldn’t be happier!
