WHAT I’VE LEARNED IN THE PAST YEAR
It’s my twenty-fourth birthday! Wow. That’s kind of crazy to say. I’m twenty-four. Goodbye twenty-three! You were a huge year for me and I expect twenty-four to bring me even more. By a huge year, I mean that I’ve had some great ups and some killer downs, but most of all I was able to overcome the obstacles I encountered. Today I want to share the 4 biggest things I learned as a twenty-three year old!
WHAT I’VE LEARNED IN THE PAST YEAR
BE PATIENT
This year I truly learned how to be patient. Everything happens so fast in this world that when it doesn’t, we get angry. Even if that means waiting five minutes for something. Five minutes! That is 300 seconds. That’s no time at all. Over the past year, I really had to understand that being patient was worth it! I can’t tell you the number of cool conversations I’ve had with individuals waiting in a line; because I was patient and being positive about the situation.
CELEBRATE WINS (No matter the size)
Here are some cool things that happened while I was twenty-three!
I started monetizing my blog!
I was accepted to the LIKEtoKNOW.it team!
Target published two of my photos on Target Finds!
I went to NEW FREAKING ZEALAND for an internship!
I was accepted as a finalist to compete at the Global Student Entrepreneurship competition!
I made deans list in college for the first time!
My advice for successful goal setting is to celebrate those wins baby! Especially when you achieve your small and short term goals because those are what take you to where you need to be to achieve your MEGA wins. Take time to love yourself and celebrate your big wins, but never give up on your dreams. You seriously CAN do anything when you put your mind to it.
I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I’ve made an extreme amount of progress as a twenty-three year old. Remember that if you don’t 100% meet your goals by the deadline it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep on pursuing them because even 1% IS something.
LISTEN MORE & TALK LESS
I’ve had conversations with others where they ask me a question and I’m very enthusiastic to answer, they listen for about two minutes then are distracted by something or someone else and start a new conversation. Think about how that makes the other person feel? Do they even care about what I have to say? Do they value me? I’m not stating I’ve never fallen into this category before, because I 100% have. We all have at some point in our lives I’m sure. I want to be the person to give someone my full and undivided attention because quite frankly it sucks when someone doesn’t do it to you. Take the time to listen to others. You might learn a little more than you thought you would too. In such a fast paced world we live in today, we can get caught up in distractions around us. Think about it, if you’re the person who sits there and listens to someone talk and others see that, they’ll want to be more like you. I’ve had a couple communication professors the past year who sat there and gave me their undivided attention. I felt so important and wanted to do exactly what they were doing to everyone!
USE NO’S AS MOTIVATION
Let’s just say that the amount of No’s I’ve heard is insane compared to the amount of yes’s I’ve heard. I can’t tell you how many individuals told me I shouldn’t be blogging because it’s a complete waste of time. #LookAtMeNow. You’ve gotta take your passions and go with them. Don’t let other people discourage you because THEY WILL TRY. Take their no’s and makes that your motivation. Prove them wrong, but for yourself of course. Being positive is what got me through because lord knows there were nights when I cried myself to sleep or wanted to pull my hair out because sometime told me I couldn’t do something. I personally believe crying is natural and good for you. Cry it out and then say “BRING IT ON BABY!”
This is me saying BRING IT ON to
